Camel Festival

The Camel Festival is an event organized in Bikaner by the Department of Tourism, Art & Culture, Rajasthan in Bikaner every year, Camel Festival is a lively and colourful event which takes place in the month of January. Known as the Ship of the Desert, the Camel has been a fundamental part of the lives of the Rajasthani lifestyle since time immemorial. In order to acknowledge the importance of this useful animal, the Camel Festival of Bikaner is celebrated on a grand scale in Rajasthan. Every year in the month of January, Bikaner comes alive with the grand celebration of the Camel Festival. This grand spectacle should not be missed in case you traveling in India in January. The festival starts with the procession of beautifully decorated camels. The procession heads towards the open sand grounds. Here, the festivities begin in earnest. The Camel Pageant is held on the first day wherein the camel owners show off their Camels' decorations and jewellery. In this festival tea and sweets prepared by camel milk are made available to the visitors interested in enjoying them.
The evenings end with a traditional rendezvous with renowned artistes of Rajasthan and the local folk performers. The jubilant skirt-swirling dancers, the amazing fire-dance and the dazzling fireworks light up the fortified desert city of Bikaner.
