The Marwar Festival
The Marwar Festival is held every year in memory of the heroes of Rajasthan. The festival is held in the month of Ashwin (Sept-Oct) in Jodhpur, for two days during the full moon of Sharad Poornima. Jodhpur Marwar Festival brings to the forefront the folk music and folk dance of the Marwar region. Folk dancers carrying pots on their heads as well as the folk singers keep you
enchanted with their performances. The days of yore, of battles and valiant heroes appear to be standing still in time. Infact, it seems as if one has gone back to the royal bygone era of the state and is reliving it. The camel tattoo show and camel polo are some of the other attractions at the Marwar Festival of Rajasthan.
The massive Mehangarh fort and the impresive Umaid Bhawan Palace which are symbols of might and valour of the Rajputs, make Jodhpur an ideal location for the festival. It was originally known as the 'Maand Festival', a classical style of folk music centred on the romantic lifestyle of Rajasthan's rulers. The festival is held for two days during the full moon of Sharad Purnima. The Marwar festival displays the music and dance of the Marwar region. The spirited folk dancers gathered here, perform with zest and entertain the audience with Rajasthani folklore. The highlight of the Marwar Festival is the classical folk music that is sung by various traditional musicians and local artists. The music is typical Rajasthani style and speaks about the passionate and adventurous lifestyle of the rulers of Rajasthan. The Marwar festival of Rajasthan is also known as Maand festival as the music is known as Maand.
The dancers make the whole lively by presenting beautiful folk dances that are exclusive to the state of Rajasthan. They present some of the most daring and difficult dances that never fail to enthrall spectators. You can see them balancing seven to nine pots on their heads and dancing gracefully while balancing themselves on the edge of a sword! The bygone times and days of yore are beautifully presented and one truly feels as though they have been transported through time. Don't let go of this wonderful opportunity to regale in the glory of pure Rajasthan spirit.
