Laxmi Vilas Palace

History
Allow us to offer you, a brief glimpse of our history of by gone days in a setting of 50 acres of secluded and peaceful land.
Situated in a small but historic town of Bharatpur, known as the impregnable fort , Laxmi Vilas Palace was built in 1887 for RajaLaxmi Niwas Palace Raghunath Singh, the younger brother of the then ruler of Bharatpur, Maharaja Ram Singh. Bharatpur is an old historic town of Jat Dynasty from 1690 A.D. onwards. Under their able leadership the territory of Bharatpur expanded far beyond the original boundaries of the town of Bharatpur and the Jats became a power to be reckoned with in this region.
For almost a hundred years Bharatpur also witnessed the entertainment and hospitality to famous dignitaries with elaborate feasts and festivities such as Royal Weddings, Duck shots, affairs of the Court, some even lasting for days.
Set amidst the sprawling 50 acres, and surrounded by undulating, yellow mustard fields, the Laxmi Vilas Palace was built for Raja Ragunath Singh, the younger brother of the then Bharatpur ruler, Maharaja Ram Singh. An eclectic and lively fusion of Rajput and Mughal architecture, the palace was earlier called Raghunath Niwas though locals always preferred to call it Kakaji ki kothi.
